Congenital Cardiac Surgery
Overview:
Congenital heart defects are structural abnormalities present at birth. These defects can range from mild conditions to life-threatening issues and often require specialized surgeries to restore heart function.
Common Conditions Treated:
- Atrial Septal Defect (ASD)
- Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD)
- Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF)
- Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA)
Treatment Approach:
- Open-Heart Surgery: Used for complex defects, where the surgeon opens the chest and corrects structural abnormalities.
- Minimally Invasive Surgery: In some cases, small incisions are made, and catheter-based techniques are used to repair the defect.
Post-Operative Care:
Infants and children require close monitoring, medication, and regular check-ups to prevent complications.
